Blog: What is Secure Access and how it works

Secure Access is how you protect your wallet in El Dorado to use advanced features like Crypto.

Updated this week

It's an authentication method that links your wallet to your device. When you create it, your phone generates a unique credential that stays associated with you. To use it, you just need to validate your identity with your fingerprint or Face ID, the same way you unlock your phone or confirm a purchase in the app store.

It's not a password you need to remember or a file you need to store. It's simply your device recognizing you.

How it works from a new device

Secure Access is created the first time you enter Crypto inside the El Dorado app.

If you switch phones or access your account from a device different from the one you originally used, you'll find two options:

  • Log in with your Secure Access, if the new device already has your credential linked.

  • Recover Secure Access, if it's a completely new device or you've lost access to the previous one.

For recovery, we send a one-time code (OTP) to the email address associated with your account. By entering that code, you validate your identity and recover access to continue operating.

Why we use this method

Secure Access replaces previous cloud backup methods. The main advantages are:

  • You don't depend on storing files or remembering phrases.

  • Validation happens on your device, not on an external server.

  • The process to enter Crypto is as simple as unlocking your phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens if I lose my phone? You can recover your access from a new device. The recovery flow is done through a code we send to your email.

  • Are my fingerprint or Face ID stored by El Dorado? No. Your biometric data never leaves your device. El Dorado only receives the confirmation that your phone recognized you correctly.

  • What happens if I change phones? When you log in from the new device, you'll see the option to recover your Secure Access. The verification code is sent to the email registered on your account.

  • What do I do if I don't receive the code by email? Check your spam or junk folder. If you still don't receive it, you can request it to be resent from the same screen or contact support.

  • Can I have Secure Access on more than one device? Yes. Each device keeps its own credential linked to your account.
